About Marcia Douglas

Marcia Douglas was born in 1961 in the United Kingdom to Jamaican parents and grew up in Kingston, Jamaica. She is a novelist, poet, and professor of creative writing and Caribbean literature at the University of Colorado Boulder, with notable works including the novels Madam Fate, Notes from a Writer's Book of Cures and Spells, and Electricity Comes to Cocoa Bottom poetry collection. She has received awards such as the National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship, Creative Capital Award, and Whiting Award, and her novel The Marvellous Equations of the Dread was longlisted for the Republic of Consciousness Prize and OCM Bocas Prize.
