Maia Kobabe

Maia Kobabe (born 1989) is an American non-binary cartoonist and author best known for eir graphic memoir Gender Queer: A Memoir (2019), which chronicles eir journey of self-discovery regarding gender identity and sexuality, earning a Stonewall Honor and an Alex Award from the American Library Association in 2020 while becoming one of the most banned books in U. SparkNotes. E graduated with an MFA in Comics from California College of the Arts in 2015 and has contributed short works to publications like The Nib and various anthologies, with upcoming projects including Opting Out (2026, Scholastic Graphix).Maia Kobabe
