Lucille Clifton (1936-2010) was an acclaimed American poet, writer, and educator renowned for her sparse, powerful verse exploring African American family life, endurance, womanhood, and overcoming adversity. Her notable works include Good Times (1969), Blessing the Boats (2000, National Book Award winner), and children's books like the Everett Anderson series; she was Poet Laureate of Maryland (1979-1985), a two-time Pulitzer finalist, and recipient of the Ruth Lilly Poetry Prize.National Book Foundation, Maryland State Archives.
