About Louis E. Lomax

Louis E. Lomax (1922-1970) was an American author and journalist best known for his books on the Civil Rights Movement and Black nationalism, including The Reluctant African (1960, Anisfield-Wolf Book Award winner), The Negro Revolt (1962), and When the Word Is Given (1963) on Elijah Muhammad and Malcolm X. He co-produced the groundbreaking 1959 documentary The Hate That Hate Produced, introducing the Nation of Islam to mainstream audiences, and hosted one of the first Black-hosted TV shows in Los Angeles from 1964-1968.
