About Lionel Shapiro

Lionel Shapiro (1908–1958) was a Canadian journalist and novelist best known for his war correspondence with The Montreal Gazette during invasions at Sicily, Salerno, and Juno Beach on D-Day. His most notable work, the 1955 romantic novel The Sixth of June, won the Governor General's Award for English-language fiction and was adapted into the Hollywood film D-Day the Sixth of June; other novels include The Sealed Verdict and Torch For A Dark Journey. A McGill University Award for Creative Literature is named in his honor.
