Leon Garfield (1921-1996) was a British author best known for his children's historical novels such as Smith, Jack Holborn, and Devil-in-the-Fog, as well as collaborations like The God Beneath the Sea with Edward Blishen; he won the Guardian Prize (1967), Carnegie Medal (1970), and Whitbread Children's Novel Award (1980), and was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature.Leon Garfield
