Leo and Diane Dillon

Leo and Diane Dillon (born 1933; Leo died 2012), an acclaimed American husband-and-wife illustration team, met at Parsons School of Design and collaborated on over 100 works, including children's picture books and speculative fiction covers, blending their styles into a distinctive "third artist." They earned consecutive Caldecott Medals in 1976 for Why Mosquitoes Buzz in People's Ears and 1977 for Ashanti to Zulu—making Leo the first Black recipient—along with a Hugo Award, multiple Coretta Scott King Awards/Honors, and induction into the Society of Illustrators Hall of Fame.
