Larry McMurtry (1936-2021) was an American novelist, essayist, screenwriter, and antiquarian bookseller best known for his works depicting the American West and Texas life, including the Pulitzer Prize-winning Lonesome Dove (1985), The Last Picture Show (1966), and Terms of Endearment (1975). His novels and screenplays, such as the Oscar-winning adaptation of Brokeback Mountain (2005) with Diana Ossana, earned numerous accolades, including 34 Oscar nominations across adaptations of his works.
