Kiyoko Murata (born April 12, 1945, in Yahata, Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan) is a Japanese fiction writer renowned for her works blending eerie and realistic styles, including the Akutagawa Prize-winning "Nabe no naka" (adapted by Akira Kurosawa as Rhapsody in August) and Yūjokō (English: A Woman of Pleasure), which earned the Yomiuri Prize. She has received numerous accolades, such as the Noma Literary Prize, Tanizaki Prize, Medal with Purple Ribbon, Order of the Rising Sun, and membership in the Japan Art Academy.
