About Kiichirō Takahashi

Kiichirō Takahashi (1928-2007) was a Japanese novelist from Hokkaido renowned for his realist depictions of coal miners and working-class life in autobiographical novels. His breakthrough came with the 1973 debut \"ぽぷらと軍神,\" winning the Bungeisho Newcomer Prize, followed by the Akutagawa Prize in 1978 for \"伸予,\" making him the first Hokkaido resident to receive it; other key works include \"観音力疾走\" (Hokkaido Shimbun Literary Prize, 1977) and \"友子\" (Nitta Jirō Literary Prize, 1991).
