Kiichi Gotō

Kiichi Gotō (1915-1990) was a Japanese painter and novelist from Yamagata Prefecture who won the prestigious 49th Akutagawa Prize in 1963 for his short story "Shōnen no Hashi" (The Boy's Bridge), marking his major literary achievement. Initially aspiring to be a painter after apprenticing in Kyoto, he later participated in literary magazines and transitioned to full-time painting in 1965. His other notable works include "Sukecchi Kikyō" (1977), poetry collections "Tōchō Kusenshū" (1990) and "Tōten Kusenshū" (1991), and the posthumous "Gotō Kiichi Zen Shōsetsu" (1991) Japanese.
