About Kenzaburo Oe
Kenzaburō Ōe (1935–2023) was a Japanese novelist born in Ōse, Ehime Prefecture on Shikoku, whose works, influenced by French and American literature, explored political, social, and philosophical themes including nuclear weapons, social non-conformism, and existentialism. Notable works include A Personal Matter, The Silent Cry, and Hiroshima Notes. He received the 1994 Nobel Prize in Literature for creating \"an imagined world, where life and myth condense to form a disconcerting picture of the human predicament today\".
