Kellye Garrett

Kellye Garrett is an American mystery author and former television writer known for her Hollywood Homicide series and the standalone thriller Like a Sister. She is one of the prominent voices in the diversification of mystery fiction, blending classic detective traditions with contemporary Black American perspectives. Garrett worked as a writer on the TV series Cold Case before turning to fiction. Her debut Hollywood Homicide won the Agatha, Anthony, Lefty, and Independent Publishers Award for Best First Mystery. She won the Anthony Award for Best Hardcover Novel for Like a Sister (2023). She is a co-founder of Crime Writers of Color, a collective that advocates for and amplifies crime fiction by authors of color. Garrett is known for her sharp wit, engaging voice, and strong female protagonists.
