About Kazuo Okamatsu

Kazuo Okamatsu (岡松和夫, June 23, 1931 – January 21, 2012) was a Japanese philologist, professor of Japanese literature, and novelist who debuted in 1955 with Yuri no kioku and won the prestigious Akutagawa Prize in 1975 for Shikanoshima (志賀島). His other notable works include Kumano (1975), Kuchibeni (1987), and Ikkyū densetsu (1991), and he received additional awards such as the Kawabata Yasunari Prize (1985), Nitta Jiro Prize (1986), and Kiyama Shohei Prize (1998).
