About Kate Wheeler

Kate Wheeler (born 1955 in Oklahoma) is an American novelist and short story writer raised partly in South America, who also teaches meditation in the Buddhist tradition. She is best known for her debut short story collection Not Where I Started From (1993), a PEN/Faulkner Award finalist and New York Times Notable Book, and her novel When Mountains Walked (2000). Her accolades include two O. Henry Awards, a Pushcart Prize, a Whiting Award, NEA and Guggenheim fellowships, and recognition as one of Granta's Best Young American Novelists.
