Kaoru Shōji

Kaoru Shōji (real name Shōji Fukuda), born April 19, 1937, in Tokyo, Japan, is a Japanese novelist who debuted with the award-winning \"Loss\" (as Fukuda Shōji) in 1958 and rose to fame with his 1969 Akutagawa Prize-winning bestseller \"Red Riding Hood, Be Careful\" (over 1.6 million copies sold), the first of a four-part series depicting his days at Hibiya High School including \"Goodbye, Noble Black Mask,\" \"I Can't Hear the Swan's Song,\" and \"My Beloved Bluebeard.\" After graduating from the University of Tokyo Law Faculty, marrying pianist Hiroko Nakamura in 1974, and ceasing novel publication after 1977, he focused on essays and successful investments.
