About Kaori Fujino

Kaori Fujino (born February 14, 1980, in Kyoto, Japan) is a Japanese novelist renowned for her short stories and novellas that explore horror lurking in everyday life, reimagining tropes from horror, science fiction, urban legends, and fairy tales. She debuted with "Iyashii tori" (Greedy Birds), winning the 103rd Bungakukai Prize in 2006, and gained international acclaim with "Tsume to me" (Nails and Eyes), which earned her the prestigious 149th Akutagawa Prize in 2013. A graduate of Doshisha University with a master's in aesthetics and art, she continues to publish works like "Dress" (2017) and "Aoki Kirara no Chotto Shita Bōken" (2022), and has been featured in recent anthologies as late as 2025.
