About Julie Phillips
Julie Phillips is an American biographer and book critic born in Seattle, Washington, who lives in Amsterdam with her family. She is best known for her award-winning biography James Tiptree, Jr.: The Double Life of Alice B. Sheldon, which won the National Book Critics Circle Award, Hugo Award, Locus Award, and Washington State Book Award, and for The Baby on the Fire Escape: Creativity, Mothering, and the Mind-Baby Problem. She has written for publications including The New Yorker, Ms. and The Village Voice, and is currently working on a biography of Ursula K. Le Guin.
