Josip Novakovich

Josip Novakovich was born in 1956 in Daruvar, Croatia (then Yugoslavia), and emigrated to the United States at age 20 to avoid military service, later becoming a Canadian citizen. He is the author of the novel April Fool's Day, several short story collections including Yolk and Infidelities: Stories of War and Lust, and essay collections such as Apricots from Chernobyl. A recipient of the Whiting Award, Guggenheim Fellowship, and a finalist for the Man Booker International Prize, he teaches creative writing at Concordia University in Montreal.
