José Manuel Caballero Bonald (1926–2021) was a Spanish novelist, poet, and essayist known for his baroque language and social critique. Born in Jerez de la Frontera, he gained prominence with works like his debut novel Dos días de septiembre (Premio Biblioteca Breve 1961) and the environmentally themed Ágata ojo de gato (Premio de la Crítica 1975).
