About José Hierro

José Hierro (1922-2002) was a prominent Spanish poet of the postwar generation, known for his rootless and existential poetry reflecting the scars of the Spanish Civil War, during which he was imprisoned for five years. His notable works include Tierra sin nosotros, Alegría (Adonáis Prize 1947), Cuanto sé de mí, Libro de las alucinaciones, and Cuaderno de Nueva York, considered his masterpiece.
