João Ubaldo Ribeiro

João Ubaldo Ribeiro (1941–2014) was a Brazilian writer, journalist, screenwriter, and professor, considered one of Brazil's greatest contemporary novelists. His breakthrough novel Sargento Getúlio (1971) won major awards including the Prêmio Golfinho de Ouro and two Jabuti Prizes, and he later received the prestigious Prémio Camões in 2008. Several of his works were adapted into films and TV series, and he was elected to the Brazilian Academy of Letters in 1994.
