About Jill Leovy

Jill Leovy is an American journalist and nonfiction writer best known for her 2015 New York Times bestseller Ghettoside: A True Story of Murder in America, which examines homicide in South Los Angeles and won awards including the Ridenhour Book Prize, PEN Center USA Prize for research nonfiction, and New York Public Library's Helen Bernstein Book Award for Excellence in Journalism, and was a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award. She spent 24 years as a reporter and editor at the Los Angeles Times, covering crime and creating the Homicide Report blog, and her work has appeared in The New York Times, The Atlantic, and others. She is a senior fellow at USC Annenberg and a former Harvard sociology fellow.
