About Jasper Ridley

Jasper Godwin Ridley (1920–2004) was a British historian and author renowned for his historical biographies, including Thomas Cranmer, John Knox, Henry VIII, Elizabeth I, and The Freemasons. He won the 1970 James Tait Black Memorial Prize for Lord Palmerston and was a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature (FRSL). Educated at Oxford and the Sorbonne, he practiced as a barrister and served on St Pancras Borough Council.
