About Jason Epstein

Jason Wolkow Epstein (1928–2022) was an American editor and publisher who launched Anchor Books, the first quality trade paperback line, at Doubleday and served as editorial director of Random House from 1976 to 1995. He co-founded The New York Review of Books in 1963 and the Library of America series, edited major authors like Vladimir Nabokov and Philip Roth, and innovated with projects like the Espresso Book Machine. Epstein authored several works including memoirs and essays on publishing, earning awards such as the National Book Award for Distinguished Service to American Letters.
