Jane Smiley (born September 26, 1949) is an American novelist best known for her Pulitzer Prize-winning novel A Thousand Acres (1991), a modern retelling of Shakespeare's King Lear set on an Iowa farm, as well as other notable works like The Greenlanders and the Last Hundred Years Trilogy.
