About James Merrill

James Ingram Merrill (1926-1995) was an American poet renowned for his elegant lyric poetry and the epic The Changing Light at Sandover, born in New York City to the founder of Merrill Lynch and inheriting wealth that allowed him to focus on writing. U.S. poetry award, including the Pulitzer Prize for Divine Comedies (1976), two National Book Awards for Nights and Days (1966) and Mirabell: Books of Number (1978), the Bollingen Prize, and the National Book Critics Circle Award for The Changing Light at Sandover (1982).
