About James Kimbrell
James Kimbrell (born 1967 in Jackson, Mississippi) is an American poet who earned an MFA from the University of Virginia and a PhD from the University of Missouri, Columbia. He is the author of several poetry collections including The Gatehouse Heaven (1998, winner of the Kathryn A. Morton Prize), My Psychic (2006), and Smote (2015), along with translations of Korean poetry, and has received numerous awards such as the Whiting Writers’ Award, Ruth Lilly Fellowship, and multiple NEA Fellowships. He teaches creative writing at Florida State University.
