James Kelman

James Kelman (born June 9, 1946, in Glasgow, Scotland) is a Scottish novelist, short story writer, playwright, and essayist renowned for his stream-of-consciousness narratives depicting working-class life in Glasgow. His most notable works include the Booker Prize-winning novel How Late It Was, How Late (1994), A Disaffection (1989, James Tait Black Memorial Prize), and Kieron Smith, Boy (2008, multiple Scottish awards); he received the Saltire Society Lifetime Achievement Award in 2024.
