James Friel

James Friel is a British novelist and short story writer known for his five novels including Taking the Veil (1989), Left of North (1987), Careless Talk (1993), The Higher Realm (2007), and A Posthumous Affair (2012), as well as numerous radio dramatizations for BBC Radio. His work has been recognized with a Betty Trask Award, Authors' Foundation grant, Arts Council bursaries, and shortlistings for the John Llewellyn Rhys Prize and Welsh Arts Council Novel of the Year; he has also served as Programme Leader for the MA in Writing at Liverpool John Moores University. Shorter fiction by Friel has appeared internationally in anthologies like The Book of Liverpool and The Mammoth Book of Gay Short Stories.Royal Literary Fund, LJMU CV
