About Jack Turner
Jack Turner (born 1942) is an American writer and academic educated at the University of Colorado and Cornell University, who taught philosophy at the University of Illinois. Since 1975, he has traveled extensively in India, Pakistan, Nepal, China, Tibet, Bhutan, Peru, and Patagonia, leading over forty treks and expeditions, and has lived in Grand Teton National Park for over twenty years while teaching mountaineering. He is the author of several nonfiction books on wilderness and nature, including The Abstract Wild and Teewinot: A Year in the Teton Range, and won a 2007 Whiting Award.
