About J. E. Neale
Sir John Ernest Neale (1890–1975) was an English historian renowned for his works on Elizabethan and Parliamentary history, including the acclaimed biography Queen Elizabeth (1934), The Elizabethan House of Commons (1949), and the two-volume Elizabeth I and her Parliaments (1953, 1957). He served as Astor Professor of English History at University College London from 1927 to 1956, was knighted in 1955, and elected a Fellow of the British Academy, establishing himself as the leading Elizabethan historian of his generation.
