J. Christopher Herold (1919-1964) was a Czech-American author and editor renowned for his works on French history, particularly biographies of Madame de Staël and books on Napoleon Bonaparte such as Bonaparte in Egypt and The Age of Napoleon. His most notable achievement was winning the 1959 National Book Award for Nonfiction for Mistress to an Age: A Life of Madame de Staël, along with fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation, Royal Society of Literature, and Society of American Historians.
