About Irwin Unger

Irwin Unger (1927–2021) was an American historian and Professor Emeritus at New York University, specializing in economic history, the Gilded Age, and the 1960s. AHA. He won the Pulitzer Prize for History in 1965 for his book The Greenback Era, a social and political history of American finance from 1865–1879, and co-authored notable works like The Guggenheims: A Family History (2005) and George Marshall: A Biography (2014) with his wife Debi Unger.
