Hideo Takubo (1928-2001) was a Japanese novelist renowned as a master of short stories, known for his precise style depicting the subtle psychological nuances between men and women. He studied French literature at Keio University, debuted in 1959 with "Green Year," and achieved major recognition with the 61st Akutagawa Prize in 1969 for "Deep River" (Fukaikawa), followed by the Yomiuri Prize in 1985 for "Sea Chart" (Kaizu), and the Noma Literary Prize in 1997 for "Wood Spirit Collection" (Kodamashu).
