Herbert Oswald Nicholas Kubly (1915-1996) was an American author and playwright born and raised on a farm in the Swiss American community of New Glarus, Wisconsin. U.S. National Book Award for Nonfiction for his debut book An American in Italy, and his works include travel books like Easter in Sicily, novels such as The Whistling Zone, and plays including Men to the Sea produced on Broadway.National Book Foundation Kubly worked as a journalist, music critic for Time magazine, and taught at universities including the University of Wisconsin–Parkside.
