Henri Pourrat

Henri Pourrat (1887-1959) was a French writer and folklore collector best known for his epic novel Les vaillances, farces et aventures de Gaspard des montagnes (1922-1931), which earned the Grand Prix du Roman from the Académie Française, and Vent de mars (1941), winner of the Prix Goncourt. He also compiled Le Trésor des Contes, a comprehensive 13-volume collection of over 1,000 Auvergne folktales. Among his achievements are five prizes from the Académie Française, the Legion of Honor (1928), and an honorary doctorate from Trinity College Dublin.
