Héctor Tobar (born 1963) is an American author, novelist, and journalist known for his Pulitzer Prize-winning coverage of the 1992 Los Angeles riots (as part of the Los Angeles Times team) and acclaimed books including the novels The Tattooed Soldier, The Barbarian Nurseries—a New York Times Notable Book and California Book Award winner—and the nonfiction Deep Down Dark, a National Book Critics Circle Award finalist.
