Harold L. Davis

Harold Lenoir Davis (1894-1960) was an American novelist and poet best known for his Pulitzer Prize-winning novel Honey in the Horn (1935), the only such award given to a native Oregonian, which realistically depicted the fading frontier life of the Pacific Northwest. Born in Nonpareil, Oregon, he began as a poet, winning the Levinson Prize in 1919, before transitioning to prose encouraged by H.L. Mencken, producing additional works like Beulah Land (1949) and The Distant Music (1957). National Book Foundation
