About H. Fauconnier

Henri Fauconnier (1879-1973) was a French novelist and plantation owner whose seminal work Malaisie (1930), translated as The Soul of Malaya, won the prestigious Prix Goncourt award and depicted life on rubber plantations in colonial Malaya. Born into an artistic family in Barbezieux, Charente, he ventured to Malaysia in 1905, amassed wealth through rubber and palm oil plantations, and later settled in Tunis before returning to France. With his sister Geneviève, he formed part of the Groupe de Barbezieux literary circle, marking them as the only siblings to win both the Prix Goncourt and Prix Femina. Google Books
