About Giuseppe Dessì

Giuseppe Dessì (1909–1977) was an Italian novelist, short-story writer, and playwright from Sardinia, best known for his works exploring Sardinian identity, memory, and landscape, such as Paese d'ombre (1972, translated as The Forests of Norbio), which won the prestigious Strega Prize, and Il disertore (1961, Premio Bagutta winner). Born in Cagliari and raised partly in Villacidro, he spent much of his life in Rome while drawing deeply from his Sardinian roots in his modernist narratives blending philosophy and regional culture.
