About Giorgos Seferis

Giorgos Seferis (1900-1971) was a Greek poet and diplomat born in Smyrna (now Izmir, Turkey), who studied law in Paris and served in various diplomatic posts including as Ambassador to the UK. His poetry, blending modern experience with ancient Greek myths and Mediterranean landscapes, earned him the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1963 for his eminent lyrical writing inspired by Hellenic culture. Notable works include Mythistorema (1935), Logbook I-III, and The Thrush.
