Germaine Guèvremont

Germaine Guèvremont (1893-1968) was a prominent Canadian writer of Quebec literature known for her realistic depictions of rural French-Canadian life in novels like Le Survenant (1945) and its sequel Marie-Didace (1947), combined in English as the award-winning The Outlander (1950). Her works, including the short story collection En pleine terre (1942), represent the last influential examples of romans du terroir and earned her the Governor General's Award (1950), Prix David, and Prix Sully-Olivier de Serres.
