Gerbrand Bakker (born April 28, 1962) is a Dutch novelist known for his restrained, dialogue-driven prose exploring rural life, family dynamics, and personal isolation. His most notable works include The Twin (2006, English 2008), which won the International Dublin Literary Award in 2010 (the first for a Dutch writer, €100,000 prize), and The Detour (2010, English 2012), recipient of the Independent Foreign Fiction Prize in 2013; other works encompass June (2009), young adult novel Pear Trees Bloom White (1999), and recent novels like The Hairdresser's Son (2022).
