About Georges Bernanos

Georges Bernanos (1888-1948), a French novelist and essayist known for his Catholic-themed works exploring spiritual struggles, served as a soldier in World War I and won the Grand Prix du roman de l'Académie française for his masterpiece Journal d'un curé de campagne (The Diary of a Country Priest, 1936). His most notable works include Sous le soleil de Satan (Under the Sun of Satan, 1926), Nouvelle histoire de Mouchette (Mouchette, 1937), and Dialogues des Carmélites (1949), several of which were adapted into acclaimed films and an opera.
