About George Szirtes

George Szirtes (born 29 November 1948 in Budapest, Hungary) is a British poet and translator who fled to England as a refugee in 1956 at age eight. Notable works include his debut The Slant Door (Geoffrey Faber Memorial Prize 1980) and Reel (T. S. Eliot Prize 2004), alongside acclaimed translations like László Krasznahorkai's Satantango.
