About George Lipsitz
George Lipsitz (born 1947) is an American scholar of Black Studies, sociology, and American Studies, renowned for his non-fiction works on race, culture, inequality, urbanism, and whiteness including The Possessive Investment in Whiteness, Time Passages, A Life in the Struggle (Anisfield-Wolf Book Award winner), Footsteps in the Dark, and Midnight at the Barrelhouse. He is Professor Emeritus at the University of California, Santa Barbara, with a Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin, and has received awards such as the American Studies Association's Angela Y.
