George Ella Lyon (born 1949) is an American author from Kentucky known for her poetry, picture books, juvenile novels, and articles, often drawing from Appalachian life. Notable works include her debut poetry collection Mountain, picture books like Which Side Are You On? The Story of a Song and The Pirate of Kindergarten, and her widely taught poem “Where I’m From.” Her achievements include serving as Kentucky Poet Laureate (2015-2016), winning the ALA Schneider Family Book Award, Golden Kite Award, and induction into the Kentucky Writers Hall of Fame.
