About Frank Luther Mott
Frank Luther Mott (1886-1964) was an American historian, journalist, and journalism educator best known for his multi-volume A History of American Magazines, with Volumes II and III winning the 1939 Pulitzer Prize for History Pulitzer.org and Volume IV earning the 1958 Bancroft Prize. His textbook American Journalism: A History of Newspapers in the United States through 250 years 1690 to 1940 became a standard resource in journalism history courses. He advanced photojournalism education, possibly coining the term in 1924, and served as dean of the University of Missouri School of Journalism.
