Francisco Ayala

Francisco Ayala (1906-2009) was a Spanish novelist and sociologist from Granada, a key figure of the Generation of '27, whose works explored the abuse of power, moral decay, and the human condition, often in the context of the Spanish Civil War and dictatorship. Exiled after the war, he taught in Argentina, Puerto Rico, and the US before returning to Spain, continuing to publish novels, short stories, and essays into his later years. He received major awards including the Cervantes Prize (1991) and Prince of Asturias Award for Literature (1998).
